Essay Contest

Application submissions must be submitted by April 1, 2024.


* The Center for Abused Persons is a private non-profit agency dedicated to reducing the incidence of physical, sexual and emotional abuse - without consideration of age, gender or type of abuse - within Charles County 24 hours every day through treatment and supportive services. CAP Would like to offer an award to the winner of an essay regarding one of the following topics.

* First $200, Second $100, and Third $50 place awards will be given on the middle and high school levels.



* Applicants must be a Charles County public or private middle or high school student

* Applicants must be able to articulate how Center for Abused Persons make an impact on the community

* Prior Applicants are encouraged to choose a separate essay topic from the options below.

* Applications must be submitted by April 1st, 2024



* Complete the online form

* Include an essay of no more than 500 words describing how CAP has influenced you or the community in one or both of the following areas:

o Healthy Relationships: Identify ways in which social media impacts domestic violence and sexual assault for school aged children today.

o Interview or research someone who has experienced violence related to domestic violence/sexual assault and explain how they were able to overcome the experience.



* A committee of CAP board members will select the final winning essay

* Essays will be judged on the following criteria:

o Technical merit: Correct use of grammar, spelling & punctuation

o Specific supporting details

o Uniqueness of experience

o Impact of experience on student’s life

* Winners will be notified by April 20th and will be asked to read their essays at CAP’s annual 5k race April 27th, 2024 at 11AM.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month  and we wanted to let you know we are holding a dinner to celebrate our 40th anniversary!


Friday, October 20 from 7pm-11pm, we will be hosting our 40th Anniversary Adult Prom at the Waldorf Jaycees. Enjoy performances by DJ Ric Entertainment, Ms. Lynn, and No Hidn' Agenda


All proceeds will go to CAP and to help us do what we do best- provide services to domestic violence and sexual assault victims, as well as others in crisis in Charles County.

Dinner included with ticket price.
